what is BPT?

The Pastoral Skills Training (PST) Program has been created to extend the skills and techniques utilized by Family Life Chaplains to other unit and clinical chaplains serving in combat and medical/clinical environments.

The U.S. Army recognizes that the Global War on Terrorism and the associated repeat deployments and redeployments places an extraordinary strain on soldiers, their families, and chaplains themselves.

The goals of PST are to provide greater support to:

  1. Soldiers and their families by equipping all chaplains – no matter their assignment – to administer critical counseling and intervention wherever and whenever it is needed.
  2. Chaplains themselves who are charged with carrying an intense emotional burden but may lack adequate support systems – either personal or professional – themselves.

The PST program covers an extensive array of counseling and therapeutic methods through a combination of self-study and group dynamics. A detailed program outline and content listing are available elsewhere on this Web site.
