BPT Chaplain Participant Introduction

The U.S. Army’s chaplains are placed on the front lines to assist with the healing of an endless variety of social and emotional trauma.

While Family Life Counseling traditionally has been fully developed and implemented at the installation level, the Pastoral Skills Training (PST) Program extends the same counseling and therapeutic skills to other chaplains serving on the battlefield and in hospitals and clinics.

In addition, this program is intended to provide direct support to you as one who also is affected by the issues to which you are expected to administer every day. Through BPT programs and safe, caring group settings, you will be provided with critical support and feedback.

Please carefully review the Program Outline and Content sections of this Web site. You will be participating in an in-depth, four-phase program which includes a combination of self-study and group interactions.

Once you have completed this program, you may qualify to participate in training succession so that you also may transition into a trainer role and assist other chaplains to obtain the skills and support they need. You will earn Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) credits for your participation in this program which may assist you toward rank advancement.
